hate to see you pick up your marbles and leave. I thought you had some really good feedback and although I don't feel comfortable critiquing your music per se, I did listen to your latest and did notice some subtle differences from prior files. I have been trying to take your earlier criticism of my lack of new posts to heart. But I have been having trouble with DOSBox and sounds through fractint on my current machine, so I've been trying to resurrect my P2 Win98 machine, which has my best fractint/sound card setup, including having the PC speaker routed through my sound card. Unfortunately, the C drive crashed and I have been trying to restore it...no luck so far, but I'm still trying. It took me a day and a half just to locate an IDE HD...had to settle on a used 100Gb 7200rpm seagate barracuda. Now I can't get a successful restore from an old set of Drive Image backups. arggh... At any rate, if you would share your new location, I was hoping that I could post some of your work on my Audio Fractals <https://sites.google.com/site/audiofractals/home> site in your own folder. It's not much of an honor, since there are typically zero visits per week, but maybe that would change with you there. It´s good to see that you´ve changed your attitude, let´s see if their is a base for cooperation. As Paul said there are "silent" users interested in my fractal music and my creations generally will see if there is any chance to revive the dead man. Will give you my alternate location later. Of course it´s ok to show my music on your website, after all Natural Music s a new concept and a unique kind of fractal music that avoids to be compared to commerciaL junk. Listen to the new item later today. Albrecht
changed attitude? not sure about that...I have always tried to separate criticism of my audio fractals from crits of me personally. I hope that others, including you, can do the same. Whatever I think of your fractal music has nothing to do with what I think of you personally. I don't know you other than through your posts. I do know that when one decides to post something online we should be prepared for, and be ok with, critiques...whether positive or negative. Because, in the past, you have seemed to take my crits of your work as something very personal, I have just decided it would be better to refrain from commenting on them. I will continue to listen as you post your music (visual fractals have very little interest for me after they are completed - with the exception of animated fractals) but I'll keep my feelings, positive or negative, to myself unless asked directly. I definitely intend to post some of my audio fractals - feedback +/- encouraged. It should be an interesting contrast in styles - if anyone is interested. I am always interested in seeing and hearing of new creations that have to do with fractals. But you most likely will get the same response from me and many others, which is to quietly sit in the background. I tend to only respond to those exceptional contributions which really are quite entertaining, unique (totally new or different), and/or some other aspect which makes them stand out from everything else in their category. Problem is... most everybody is looking for praise and glory for what they are sharing with those that see their "posts" (whether email, websites [Facebook, forums, personal, etc.], or some other method of display). And when they do not get the adoration expected, they either quit or move on to someplace else. This has been going on for as far back in time as there have been people. Only a very small few ever get truly recognized for their efforts. And an even smaller number of those ever make any profit from it. I only do things for my own enjoyment, and sometimes I will share my creations, if I think it may be of interest to some of my friends. But if they do not get any response, I no longer care, because I am not doing it for others, I do it for myself. And occasionally, I do get a positive response, and that indicates to me there is someone with a similar interest as mine in what was done. Sincerely, P.N.L.
Paul, I respect your feelings on this. I, too, mainly do things for myself, but occasionally want to share. I know most people read the posts and maybe check out the image/file and rarely, if ever, comment. After 25+years in the fractint community, I am used to that. If I was in it for the glory I would be sorely disappointed. My hope is that by posting audio fractals I may stimulate someone else to explore in the directions I have been heading. I am getting a bit long-in-the-tooth, with rapidly degenerating eyesight (not the best predicament for a photographer) and would love it if someone felt like taking the torch and running with it. I am struggling to get an adequate fractint system put back in place, but until then, I intend to start posting past project files. It has been a fun process for me to go back as far as I can locate stuff, and sort of retrace my personal journey with fractint. It is the only fractal program I have ever used, or will ever use, for better or worse. I became enthralled with the generational process of fractals...watching the orbits as they generate and then being able to put sounds to those orbit calculations, starting with ver. 15.11, which was contained in "Fractal Creations" - I still have the book, 5 1/4" floppy, poster and 3D glasses. I believe that Lee Skinner (still lurking Lee?) may have been the creator of the image on the cover, though I couldn't find attribution. I don't see this as a battle for supremacy or any other such notion. I certainly know there is no glory involved. I just firmly believe that there is more than one way to experience the beauty, complexity and endless variety of fractals. I rarely comment anymore on anything... but that does not mean I do not look and listen to all the various posts which are made by people, including your own. In fact, I have downloaded the majority of your audio creations over the years (both from here and other forums). If you choose to no longer share them here, that of course is your decision, but there are those here that still take an interest in your postings (both image and audio). Sincerely, P.N.L.
