FOTD -- June 12, 2008 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image shows one of the most impressive minibrots that I have ever found in the exponent range between 1 and 2. The parent fractal was created by the formula Z^(1.5)+C as it appears 11 levels up the complex log ladder when the 'recip' function is applied. This parent resembles a fairly normal looking mandeloid with an unusually long zigzagging filament extending south from the main bud and curving east. A large minibrot lies on this filament, and today's scene is located in the East Valley area of this larger minibrot. The image consists of unmistakable East Valley Julia set stuff. It seems to be a universal fact that minibrots of all orders, which are located in the East Valleys of larger minibrots, have the same underlying appearance. The same is true, though perhaps to a lesser degree, of the minibrots in the Seahorse Valleys of larger minibrots. I named today's image "Forever Down South". I am not sure why I gave it this name, but the name is not totally inappropriate. After all, the scene does lie well south of the main part of its parent fractal. The rating of an 8 is due in large part to the coloring, which largely makes the image. The calculation time of 1-1/3 minutes is quite brief even in the eyes of the most impatient. The sunny skies, low humidity and temperature of 81F 27C could hardly be improved upon. With a repeat expected tomorrow, the satisfaction should only increase.
