THIS is the future of fractal generation. If I was about 20 years younger I'd start a sourceforge FractGrid project today. I'd ask permission to use parts of fractint like the parser and so on, but mostly it would attract a new generation of Stone Soupers. This isn't a trivial undertaking either. It would require specialized experience in parallel distribution... and a nodal network similar to bittorrent. If you consider a fractal image takes a day, if there was a way to split that up between even 100 internet users it might be feasible to get the image done in less than an hour.
