FOTD 20-01-10 (Same Old Rectangle [7.5])
FOTD -- January 20, 2010 (Rating 7.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: While rambling around in fractal land Tuesday evening, I decided to pay a brief visit to the familiar rectangle in the Z^(2.003)+C Julibrot. I stayed there only a short time, but I did manage to find today's image, which is a slightly skewed view of the rectangle. The rating of a 7.5 notwithstanding, the name "Same Old Rectangle" describes my feelings about the image. It took a double rotation of only 1.5,1.5 degrees from the Julia orientation to wreak havoc on the once-perfect rectangle, which looks like it is being violently twisted by some invisible fractal giant. The surroundings in this fractal area have always reminded me of a fantastic rail yard. The rail-like features exist in every orientation of the Julibrot in this area. In my opinion, the coloring is worth the extra half-point I gave the image. But I still must admit that most of its worth was created by the Fractint program rather than my intervention. My main task was to solidly fill the the rectangle by rendering the scene with the inside set to bof61. The calculation time is a speedy 170 seconds, and even this brief delay may be avoided by surfing out to the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> and viewing the finished image there. A temperature of 39F +4C, a dreary low overcast and a steady light mist made Tuesday a day to be forgotten here at Fractal Central. The fractal cats seemed to agree. It took only one glance out the window to turn their thoughts to pleasures other than a sunny window shelf to lie on. My day was un-notably average. Unless climate change gets totally out of control, the next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and why can't those selfish con- servatives see the danger the earth is in due to climate change?
