FOTD 24-02-04 (Iterative Diversion [6])
FOTD -- February 24, 2004 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Big changes are coming. In a year or two, Fractal Central will be moving from its current location near the northeast corner of Baltimore MD to somewhere in south or central Pennsylvania. The exact location is yet to be determined. Fractal headquarters will be moving because the fair city in which it is now located, (Charm City they try to call it), has sunk to levels that have gone beyond unbelievable to downright comical. I'll not go into lengthy details, since discussing politics on the list is off topic, but as a single example, believe it or not, the city school system, which recently was granted a multi-million funding increase and boasts something like a 33-percent literacy rate among its 12th grade graduates, is insolvent, and looks like it will soon go into receivership. Now that I have gotten that off my chest, on to the fractal. For today's trip into Fractal Land, I have returned to the traditional Mandelbrot set and the valley of the large period-3 north bud, where I found today's midget. The shape of the midget is familiar. Most of the impact, (if that's what it might be called), is a result of the coloring. I named the image "Iterative Diversion" because it is a brief diversion from my excursions into the other planes of the Julibrot. The rating of a 6 combined with a render time of 9 minutes gives an overall value of 66. For tomorrow's image I will show one of the strange things that happens to today's image when it is viewed from a different direction. Until then, be aware that the finished GIF file of the image is available for download on Paul's web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> The weather remained pleasant all day here at Fractal Central on Monday, with lots of sun and a temperature of 48F 9C. These conditions kept the fractal cats satisfied from dawn to dusk. Today is starting cloudy and chilly, with the possibility of a little snow. We'll see how it goes. For me, the work is slightly heavy -- nothing that I cannot finish in plenty time to find another fractal. So stay tuned for more wonders. Until next time, take care, and iterate well. Hey, the only reason Hawaii's school system has a higher literacy rate amongst graduates is that a lot fewer students graduate! And (since our school system is statewide and part of the state government) there is no chance of it going into receivership where someone might actually make changes for the better! Any, I'd think there's gotta be some fractal that could come from such feelings! David gnome@hawaii.rr.com

If you have not already thought about it, may I suggest a home without a basement (or least one that will not flood when it rains). ;-} And have you thought about moving further south instead of going north?? I am sure the cats would appreciate warmer weather more often (and less snow shoveling on your part). :-) Sincerely, P.N.L. ------------------------------------------------- http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/PNL_Fractals.html http://www.Nahee.com/Fractals/

High ground...I've never seen a basement that flooded--first hand, anyway. In some places, like the Texas-Arkansas tornado belt, you'd be a fool without one, flooded or not. Me? I like the cheap air conditioning that a basement affords (the guy on the second floor of the south side of this building must be part Salamander). To top it all off, in many floods (excluding flashes and tital waves and tsunami) you'll hav more time to remove the more valuable items if you hav a basement.

If you go far enough North, private education and receivership for schools is all but heresy. The private education is doable, but there are provincial minima. We're still comparing ourselves to California in regards to power privatization, and Ontario isn't all a-glitter about it, either -- it'll take them longer to figure that out, though, because they hav three levels of secondary diploma.

Iterate well? As in nicely? Does that mean I shouldn't make her wait when she's bound? Nah. Three more tries at taking the high-frequency noise out of my Crown_Clubs. You might not hav seen that yet. I don't think I will use it. If you change it to "z*z -conj(z)", then you'll get a triangl, which makes me wonder if a way is to put IFS parameters into a formula to get something that looks more like a fractal than the average Hyperbolic Iterated Function System. The jeneral shape of z*z -conj(z) is about the same as what's below when inverted, but much simpler, so I might base my cards on some corruption of it.
