This has long been one of the little idiosyncrasies that I use to describe The Human Condition ... we can easily conceive eternity in one direction only: forward. The human mind can grasp the concept of a line with no end, whether that line is time, space, or whatever. A line with no beginning is a different kettle o' fish. It's my contention that we cannot grok the concept. Oh, we can describe it, and tell ourselves that it exists, but in our minds, when we try to "see" it, our brains won't let us. It always starts somewhere, even if the starting point is in motion. The most common thing people do is to say that they are the same; I look forward and there is no end, I look back and there is no end. In that case the starting point is the point of view of the observer. Try as we might, we must, as humans, always start somewhere. We just don't end anywhere :)
