Re: [Fractint] Re: Fractint on XP
Hans, You've had better luck than I have getting Fractint to run on XP. I have just learned that XP can be installed as either NTFS or FAT. My installation is NTFS, which is why I do not see the C: drive when I boot to DOS. Is your machine FAT? Also, do you know how running Virtual PC would affect this? Thanks. Bill: Here's a totally kludgey idea! It may solve your problem WinXP should still be able to "see" and read the FAT16 and/or FAT32 partitions, directories, and files on a DOS 7 boost floppy. While your system is still in WinXP Copy makefcfg.exe tn your DOS 7 boot floppy. Then boot your system with the DOS 7 Boot Floppy. While still in DOS 7, Run makefcfg.exe. Hopefully it might actually "see" your video card's vesa registers and write a fractint.cfg file on your boot floppy. Reboot your PC in WinXp. WinXp should be able to "see" and read files on a DOS7 FAT16 or FAT32 Floppy disk. Rename the fractint.cfg file in your Fractint directory to "fractintcfg.old". Then copy the fractint.cfg file on your floppy to the Fractint directory. Create and configure a "DOS box" & icon for fractint.exe. Double click the fractint icon to run fractint.exe. Who knows? It even might work. Hope this helps, TG ----- Original Message ----- From: <BillatNY@aol.com> To: <fractint@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, October 17, 2002 2:08 PM Subject: Re: [Fractint] Re: Fractint on XP
