FOTD -- January 12, 2007 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's fractal shows a little of what happens when a tiny bit of Z^(1.8) is subtracted from an equally tiny bit of Z^(2.2) and straight C is added. The resulting parent fractal is an over- bloated Mandelbrot set with a split personality in the form of two large but separate period-2 buds. Today's FOTD image is located in the mass of debris that lies between the two compet- ing large buds. I named the image "X Marks the Spot". From a distance, it does look something like a letter 'X'. It is an unusual image in having such well-defined areas of order and chaos. The decision to rate the image at a 6 came almost without effort. The calculation time of 3-1/2 minutes is about average as fractals go. The calculation part may be avoided by visiting the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> and viewing the finished image there. But before paying a visit, allow a little time for the image to be posted. Thursday started very cold, with a temperature of 18F -8C here at Fractal Central, but a strong afternoon sun raised the temperature to 37F 3C. The fractal cats were too busy looking for trouble and sleeping to notice the weather. They did take notice when the time for their evening treats arrived however. Mu day was pretty average.
