FOTD 19-04-03 (Feelers [7])
FOTD -- April 19, 2003 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The Easter season here and a dinner is planned for Sunday. As a result, I find myself with lots of work to accomplish, both fractal and otherwise. With so many other things to do, I have made little progress on the much promised but little seen FOTD CD since my last report one week ago. But fear not, the critter will soon be on the market, later than Windows95, but better late than never. In recent months I have uncovered a whole new infinite world to be explored -- the world of evaporated fractals made visible by the < bof61 > inside fill. And with a whole new world waiting to be discovered, the best thing to do is to start exploring. Today's evaporated scene is part of the evaporated left-overs of the fractal that results when negative portions of Z^(-1.6) and Z^(-7.6) are combined and (1/C) is added. The exact location is in the East Valley area of a small satellite Mandeloid near the shoreline of the main bay, the shape of which is indescribable. I named the image "Feelers" because of the effect of tendrils being sent down toward the remnants of a midget at the center, to feel out what is there. At least that's what I thought of as I studied the rather lively scene. The rating of an above-average 7 is well justified. The image is the best of the lot for April, though with only 2 images to compete with, it is not much of an honor to be number one. The 14-minute render time (on my aging and soon to be replaced fractal machine) can be avoided by downloading the pre-rendered GIF file from one of the FOTD web sites. Paul's site is at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> Scott's is at: <http://sdboyd.dyndns.org/~sdboyd/fotd/index.html> The fractal weather varied widely during the week, as did the moods of the fractal cats. The first half featured sunny days with temperatures around 86F 30C, but the week ended with low clouds, rain and drizzle, and temperatures around 36F 2C. The dynamic ones had an uneventful week of exploring in the yard or sulking on their window shelves, depending on the weather. In the garden, the catnip mint is just appearing. The very aromatic new growth always attracts nearly every cat in the neighborhood, so I expect the fractal ones will have a far more exciting time in the week to come. The next, and final, FOTD of April will appear in 7 days. After that, the daily FOTD will resume on May 1. Check back in one week to see the adventures of the fractal duo. Until next FOTD, take care, and be fractal.
