R: The Real 3D Mandelbrot Fractal/ M. Campbell
Hello, I just wanted to thank you for posting this address... I really loved it! Are you the author of the 2 pages ? What did you change to let fractals be '3d' if you let me ask - I know fractals have not a 2d or 3d dimension but I did not know how to say it...and btw that's the title/subject of the post Thanks. Anyone on this List been following the latest search for the real 3D Mandelbrot fractal? If not, here might be a good place to start off with:

There are many links through the two page article for further information and viewing.

Daniel White (twinbee) is the author of those web pages. Skytopia.com is his Domain: http://whois.domaintools.com/skytopia.com He has been posting to the FractalForums web pages about this topic since around September 2007: http://www.fractalforums.com/3d-fractal-generation/true-3d-mandlebrot-type-f... Dan may be reached from either of those locations.

I read his article when it was originally posted. There's some disagreement (apparently amongst the mathematically inclined) that his Mandelbulb is a true 3D mandelbrot. I seem to recall Jim Muth's FotD musings referring to certain other fractals as 4-dimensional, with Fractint's 2D (plane) renderings being slices at various angles and positions within the 4D space? -- David gnome@hawaii.rr.com authenticity, honesty, community
