FOTD -- June 27, 2002 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: I enjoy human foolishness and today we have a lot of it. The pledge of allegiance to the flag of the U.S.A. has been declared unconstitutional because it mentions God. I suppose the Declaration of Independence and Constitution are also unconstitutional because they also mention God. And our money is also unconstitutional because 'In God We Trust' is written on it. I wonder why Atheists are so intense in their disbelief. I happen to believe in some-something that in some way fits the description of a God. But I do not become offended when Atheists tell me that I am mistaken, or deluded, or clinging to a crying-towel etc. I simply enjoy the debate, satisfied that I am right and they are wrong, while having fun seeing their futile arguments. Why then do Atheists so often become offended when believers tell them and futilely try to convince them that they are mistaken in their disbelief? Actually, as I see it, Atheism is not so much a disbelief in a god as it is a continued belief in and a defense of the philosophy of positivism, a world-view which, IMO, lost credibility about 100 years ago, and except among Atheists has been declining ever since. As to what world-view will prevail to replace it, I have no idea. But one thing is certain -- a new world-view will need to extend beyond the traditional five senses. Most of the universe is invisible to our senses even aided by the best instruments. And we do have a fractal for today. For a change, there is no quadratic midget at the center. In fact, today's image consists of the entire fractal created by the formula -0.2(Z^(-1.25)-0.2(Z^(-0.8)+(1/C). While studying the image, I had the impression of a butterfly emerging from its cocoon. I named the image "Birth". I rated it at a run-of-the-mill 6. The 11-minute render time can be avoided by downloading the completed GIF file from Paul's web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> or from Scott's site at: <http://sdboyd.dyndns.org/~sdboyd/fotd/index.html> The fractal weather Wednesday here at Fractal Central was hot. In fact, it was the hottest day of the young summer. The temperature of 99F 37C and high humidity kept the cats confined to the shade of the porch and the fractalist confined to the coolness of the air-conditioning. Late in the afternoon a shower threatened, but died out before reaching Fractal Central. Today promises to be a repeat of yesterday, and the cats are already in their lazy mode. As for me, I've got work to do. As long as the air cooler keeps working, I'll be fine. Until next time on the 30th, take care, and see you then. Jim,
I enjoy human foolishness and today we have a lot of it.
I don't enjoy human foolishness because the fools far too often have to much seriousness placed on them, as we have just seen. It would be more enjoyable if we treated the fools as fools, rather than as they had something significant to say.
The pledge of allegiance to the flag of the U.S.A. has been declared unconstitutional because it mentions God. I suppose the Declaration of Independence and Constitution are also unconstitutional because they also mention God.
A technical point. The Constitution does not mention God. However, the Constitution is the building built upon the foundation, the Declaration of Independence, which does mention God. Ken...

And neither did the Pledge of Allegiance, until the Communist witch hunts took place back in the early fifties. The "under God" portion was added back in 1954 to appease some foolish fanatics of that time. Apparently what had been fine since 1892 had to be messed with by more fools. Paul is a little loose with his facts here. For those who care, see http://www.legion.org/our_flag/of_pledgehist_flag.htm for the accurate facts on this issue. Readers can decide for themselves if Paul's commentary is correct or not. Ken...

The 'facts' (as you put it) on that web page, only state the following: "The last change in language came on Flag Day 1954, when Congress passed a law, which added the words 'under God' after 'one nation'." Yes, Congress did pass this, but it does not mention the whole story behind what initiated that modification. Nor does anything on that web page dispute what I stated. Besides, the American Legion were the ones involved in modifying the original "Pledge of Allegiance" in 1923-24, over the protests of it's author Francis Bellamy. Why should they tell what was the agenda behind all the modifications. It is well known, and quite factual, that during the 1950's the federal government's references to God multiplied considerably. Since their are hundreds of more web pages with less biased and political view points, and much more real truth, I would suggest a full search and reading of them before believing what one individual points us to. ;-} Try a search engine with these keywords: "witch hunt" "Pledge of Allegiance" "under god" http://www.religioustolerance.org/nat_mott.htm http://members.tripod.com/CORT_BOL/BOLart1.html http://www.themilitant.com/1998/6211/6211_28.html etc.... So please keep up your blatant attacks against me in all the forums you do this in. Everybody sees what you are really up to. ;-} Sincerely, P.N.L. -------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.fractalus.com/cgi-bin/theway?ring=fractals&id=43&go
Hi, I have just subscribed to this group. In the future, can I expect more fractal-based discussions AND this childish back-and-forth bantering? I hope so! I love it! Fractals, arrogance, ignorance, conspiracy!!! All in one place! How lucky I am to have found you! Peace to you and your kind, Mark.

I am old enough to have learned the pledge without the words " under God" and I personally still recite it that way. The point, it seems to me is, that the glory of this country is that it is a secular society. Anyone is entitled to whatever personal beliefs they want -- if someone wants to believe there are fairies in the bottom of their garden, so be it. But it is another thing to drag these things into the public arena and force other unwilling persons to bow down to them. George Priest geopriest@raincity.com "But why is it mere talk? Because, my friend, beauty, purity, respectability, religion, morality, art, patriotism, bravery, and the rest are nothing but words which I or anyone else can turn inside out like a glove."
