Seems it should be possible; the sound data could "seed" the equation(s) in the fractal generator. I would like to compare what we get with classic Beatles and Doors compared with todays garbage rock. Classics and Jazz would be interesting also. Just musing .... Vary the x-value on the inversion point from about -1.396 to about -1.397 (and back) for about ten frames--maybe thirty if you want it slow. You will also need to vary the scaling values, because it is bigger at invert=0.0016776448/-1.397/0 . You might get away with varying the inversion radius in parallel with the inversion point. It won't hurt to cycle the colours, too. Stay cool. . Stay gruntled.
Don't know about sound => fractal, perhaps some fractal generation code could be adapted to run in CSound, PureData or SuperCollider (FOSS sound generation programming languages). I've thought about a "music" in which notes might have "fractal fuzziness" to them - for example, what looks like a quarter note is really 8 simultaneous (or non-simultaneous) 32nd notes, each having a frequency that is some fractally-derived distance from the base quarter note's frequency, and perhaps their timing/duration could also be fractally derived ... I'm still looking for a good program that can convert a fractal => MIDI sound file. I have an old DOS program around here somewhere, but it quite outputting proper files several generations of DOS Windows ago ...
