FOTD -- September 10, 2009 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: A very busy day on Wednesday means a brief discussion. The fractal image lies in the parent fractal that is created when negative Z^(1.5) is mixed with negative Z^(-5.5) and straight C is added. This parent fractal is a somewhat distorted Mandelbrot set rotated 180 degrees, with a disk surrounded by area of interest off to its west. Today's image lies in one of these interesting areas. Most of the worth in today's image was achieved by rendering it with the outside set to 'tdis'. But even then, I could rate it no higher than a 7. The name "Bubbles in the Void" refers to the appearance of the image. The calculation time of a superluminal 23 seconds means that the image will finish before it is started. This will give the fractalist an early view of what will appear on the screen and give him a chance to decide not to do the calculation. But I just couldn't resist putting a brief comment at the end. Heavy clouds but no rain kept Wednesday boringly dreary here at Fractal Central. The temperature of 75F 24C was the only thing not boring. The fractal cats had quite a bit of excitement however when two beat-up tomcats met and got into a shouting fight in the yard next door. When the loser slinked away in defeat, the victor sprayed the area generously. I hope the rain comes soon. (Don't ask why.) But even if it doesn't rain the next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours.
