I just can NOT get my sstools to behave as I want it to, in spite of your advice. I wonder if anyone could point out where I'm going astray? Failed trials are disabled by ";". Fractint runs like the proverbial bat out of —, but the files are saved into my "Fractl" directory. map=maps\default.map ;savename=gif001 ; savename=c:\fractl\fractint\gif\nick001 ; filename=c:\fractl\Fractint\GIF_s\ ; gifdir=c:\fractl\fractint\gif_s ; gifdir=c:\fractl\fractint\*.gif ifsfile=ifs\fractint.ifs parmfile=pars\fractint.par lfile=lsystem\fractint.l formulafile=formulas\fractint.frm ; SAVENAME=c:\Fractl\FractInt\GIF_s\fract001.gif ; OVERWRITE=no autokeyname=key\auto.key

OK... First let us get some information, and make sure we are all on the same page: 1. What is the full directory path of where the FRACTINT.EXE you are using exists?? 2. Does the SSTOOLS.INI reside in the same directory path as the FractInt executable?? 3. Does the image folder you want the .GIF images stored in already exist?? 4. And if so, what is the full directory path?? 5. What OS are you running under?? 6. Which version of FractInt are you using??
ANSWERS 1. c:\Fractl\Fractint 2. YES. (Fractl\) extra formulas ifs key lsystem maps pars debugfla.txt demo.bat FRACT001.GIF FRACT002.GIF FRACT003.GIF FRACT004.GIF FRACT005.GIF fract19.bat fractint.cfg FRACTINT.EXE fractint.hlp sschoice.exe sstools.ini tplus.dat 3. and 4. NO, I have not been able to MAKE a .GIF folder. My .gifs always end up as shown above... in my Fractl folder. When I * try* to do as you and Nick Grasso have suggested... like this (without the ; 's) [fractint] inside=0 ; FILENAME=C:\Fractl\fractint\GIF_s\ map=maps\default.map ifsfile=ifs\fractint.ifs parmfile=pars\fractint.par lfile=lsystem\fractint.l ; SAVENAME=c:\Fractl\fractint\GIF_s\fract001.gif autokeyname=key\auto.key Fractint hangs, with sarcastic little notes like: "Can't find FILENAME=C:\Fractl\fractint\GIF_s\. Check sstools.ini" or "Can't find SAVENAME=c:\Fractl\fractint\GIF_s\fract001.gif. Check sstools.ini" Sometimes I screamed a little. 5. O.K. This is happening in DOSBox-0.74, inside a 64 bit WIN 10 Pro. 6. I downloaded a fresh copy of Frain204 From Spanky... Twice. I touched up DOSBox a little to set Cycles to max, and put a couple of commands in the Autoexec section, so that Fractint opens in full screen without going through that mounting business each time. I find this system blazingly fast... about 28 seconds for a 1280x1024x256 Mandel or a few minutes for a 2048x2048x256 disc video. The startup screen is just a blur. To me this is miraculous, when I recall my Tandy 1000 running an all nighter, long ago, for a Lo Res Mandel! All I need is that Gif folder. John W. On 27 September 2015 at 19:00, Paul N. Hmm, I think what they meant about MAKING a GIF folder, when they asked, "Does the folder already exist?" I think they meant, "Have you made a GIF_s folder in your Fractl folder?". In other words, Fractint doesn't make the folder named in SSTOOLS.INI, it just tries to use the existing named folder. From your list in answer 2, the folder doesn't exist. Make a GIF_s folder there under you Fractl folder, then see if Fractint starts using it. On 09/28/2015 07:38 PM, John Wilson wrote:

FractInt does not create the folders. You need to establish them before hand, manually!!!! Once they exist, then you can reference them within the SSTOOLS.INI file. Sincerely, P.N.L.
