FOTD -- February 02, 2004 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The non-fractal work is unexpectedly heavy again here at F.C., so today's discussion will have to be short and to the point. The point is that today's image is a scene in the fractal which results when 9.9 parts of Z^(-0.41) are subtracted from 0.9 parts of Z^(1.4) and (1/C) is added. This fractal resembles a distorted Mandelbrot set with East Valley on its southern side. The scene of today's image is located in the interior of this valley. The coloring is different from my usual rather somber palettes. Instead of dark blues and purples, I have colored it in bright oranges and tints of white, with a little green and black thrown in for emphasis. The image was calculated using the outside=tdis option, which, in this image, gives more bands than the normal equal-iteration method, and therefore smoother colors. I named the image "Back to Work" because that's what I have to do as soon as I post this letter. The image has been rated at a 6. The render time of 8 minutes gives an overall value of 68. The sun and temperature of 57F 14C were pleasant for people also. Today is starting cloudy with light rain, but the rain is already moving out. I expect better things to come by afternoon.
