Coloring in Fractint
Can anybody tell me if it's possible to modify the colors of a fractal gif in a graphics program such as Paint Shop Pro, and then recreate the fractal with a new color map? Thanks in advance, John Wilson.
John, Any paint program that has RGB coloring can be used to re-color you fractal. However, doing this will remove the GIF89a info fractint needs to reload/redraw your fractal and the result will be a plasma. There is a workaround if you want to do it. Make a copy of the original saved GIF and use the copy as a work copy for the new palette. Then load the work copy back into fractint and color cycle your new plasma. While in color cycling enter <s> and save the map. Then use the saved map to recolor your original fractal. Hope this helps. David M Fisher ----- Original Message ----- From: John W. Thanks David. Your instructions worked fine for me. I had a couple of fractals which looked wishy-washy to me. I loaded 'em into Paint Shop Pro and increased the color saturation and the contrast of the images to suit my taste. I then went through the color cycle-plasma-save map route and applied the new maps to the original fractals. Great! I will not be doing this frequently, but it's good to know its possible in that most versatile of all fractal generators... Fractint. If it is a FractInt produced fractal .GIF file which is being modified and then saved again within a graphic editor, then most likely all of the special trailer information will be lost. The trailer data is where FractInt stores what formula was used, the various parameter settings, etc... used to create the image. This altered image can be loaded back into FractInt and will be displayable. Even the color cycling will work against the image with the "new" colors. But without the trailer record, you would no longer have the values necessary to recreate the fractal using that modified .GIF file. If you did save the .PAR from this image, it would most likely be saved as a Plasma type.
