Thanks to David and Paul for their replies. Then I began a new busy job and was less than impressed when the editors often arbitrarily changed what I had written, dropped illustrations and failed to return some photos that I had paid good money for." Hmm, any possibility that your interesting-sounding column (even the old issues of it) could appear somewhere on the web? David It is nearly a decade since I stopped writing the column. The articles were written in WordStar, converted to plain text and copied to 5 ¼ inch discs along with GIF files to be DTP’d (This was over ten years ago). I have put a 5 ¼ inch drive into my current PC and have copied hundreds of diskettes with old files to my hard disc, but can’t find the ones for my articles now - There are about 500 more 5 ¼ inch diskettes that I’ve not looked at for years. It would probably be easier to scan the articles, but wonder if it’s worth it. The first article was basically a brief description of what fractals are (with only a little maths) and why they are interesting, together with an enthusiastic account of the main features of Fractint. I e-mailed the text of the article to Tim to check (This was before the web or modern browsers had come on the scene; if I remember correctly I had just moved up from an acoustic coupler to a state of the art 2400 bps modem at vast expense.) Later articles mainly discussed further fractal types, including the fern and other ifs, L-systems, Lyapunov and so on. I can’t imagine that I covered anything not in Tim’s book. Paul N. On 6 Jan 1999 amazon.com wrote to say ‘At this time, we have not yet located the item that you requested. Please rest assured that we will continue searching until you let us know that you would like us to discontinue our efforts. ‘When a match is found, we will contact you by email to request your approval of the price of the item.’ I have not heard from them in the last 5 years, and assumed after Tim said that it was out of print that it was unavailable. I have a Gold Visa credit card (having cancelled my Diners, Amex, Bankcard and Mastercard) and will now revisit amazon.com. My concern was about private transactions - bank drafts are expensive.
