FOTD -- November 05, 2007 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is named "Spectral Encounter". I named it when I pondered the fact that the image is not really there. It is an evaporated image, a ghost if you will, made manifest by the 'bof61' inside fill. Since ghosts are not supposed to be real, I could give the image a rating no higher than a 7, but it's actually a rather pleasant diversion, whose only drawback is the slow calculation time of 15-1/2 minutes on my fast P4-2000 machine and almost 1-1/2 hours on the slow old P200. The image itself is indescribable, vaguely resembling some exotic tropical jungle. There is a midget at the center, but it lies far beyond the resolution limit. In fact, the resolution is already starting to break down in the actual image. The 'mathtolerance' entry is necessary to assure that the parameter file renders at the correct magnitude of 3.66*10^12. The generating expression combines various negative portions of Z^(-1.1) and Z^(-11.1) then adds (1/C). Before it is evaporated the resulting parent fractal is an immensely oversized thing consisting mostly of rings and requiring several outzooms to fit completely onto the screen. Today's scene lies in the East Valley area of a large minibrot not too far southeast of the origin. The frustrating wait for the parameter file to finish may be avoided by stopping by the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> and viewing the already finished image there. A few too many clouds and a temperature a few degrees too chilly made Sunday only an average day here at Fractal Central. The fractal cats were not bothered by the temperature of 52F 11C, but those pesky pigeons pecking on the sidewalk annoyed them no end. Finally however the pigeons flew away and the cats settled down for their afternoon naps. My day was as good as could reasonably be expected. The next FOTD image and discussion will be posted at this same internet spot in about 24 hours. Until then, take care, and where will the universe be a google years from now?
