FOTD 23-12-06 (Ample Backlighting [6])
FOTD -- December 23, 2006 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's fractal formula mixes 0.2 part of Z^3 with 0.2 part of Z^(-4), then adds C to create a broad ring of various fractal holes and filaments with X-axis symmetry. Today's image is located in some fractal debris near a large, vaguely Mandel- shaped open area near the northern extremity of the parent fractal. I named today's image "Ample Backlighting". While studying the image I had a strong impression that the brilliant yellow-green fringed foreground objects are strongly backlit. But it takes more than backlighting to make a great fractal, so I could rate the image no higher than a 6, which is not all that bad BTW. The calculation time of just over 5 minutes is about what would be expected for an everyday fractal. And as always, the minor task of calculating the image may be avoided by going to the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> and viewing the already-calculated image there. A totally unpleasant day here at New Fractal Central on Friday, with rain and a temperature of 39F 4C, left the fractal cats unmoved. Their entire afternoon was spent annoying the decora- ted tree, climbing up into it, knocking ornaments off the branches and batting them up and down the hallway. To add insult to injury, some cat actually dropped a tiny decorative angel into Cassie's water dish. My day continued hectic. The work was only average, but the holidays are near and much remains to be done. If all goes well, and why should it not, the next FOTD will appear in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and is anyone else on the lists? I calculated your zooms, Lee, and enjoyed them quite a bit. I also made a couple of zooms into them myself. I put one below I called XmasEyes -- its a little slow, also -- go enjoy a sandwich and then come back; or run it in the background using 'Disk' Video.... Lee, I was amused when I saw that the last three colors in your third parameter file (below) were by chance encoded as the word: "Lan". My spell checker even offered to change it (in my previous sentence) to: "LAN"! - Hal Lane ######################### # hallane@earthlink.net <mailto:hallane@earthlink.net> # ######################### START PARAMETER FILE===================================== XmasEyes { ; Hal Lane Dec25'06 38m P400 1024x768 ; Zoom into Lee Skinner's zoom into ; Jim Muth's FotD for Dec 6, '06. ; Copyright 2006 Harold Lane, Jr. reset=2004 type=formula formulafile=_pastarc.frm formulaname=mandelbrotmix4 function=ident passes=1 center-mag=-0.03156093255473411/+0.05619714160024937/1.\ 205177e+008/1/-152.499999989705742/-1.04065709730094547\ e-008 params=10/1.1/1/11/-0.9/0 float=y maxiter=1000 inside=0 logmap=299 symmetry=none periodicity=10 sound=off colors=000N2C<3>B17805G0BO0G<3>g0Ul0Xq0`v0d<2>y0fz0gy0h\ <3>u1mt1ns1or2q<2>v2u<3>c5eZ6`U6X<2>F9LAAG7FO4KW0Qc<3>5\ Xc6Zc7`c7aa7c_7eY<3>FcgHciJbl<3>S_v<3>civflvinvlqvotvsw\ w<2>zzz<3>rwzovzhsw<3>Gch8_d8Xa<3>8JP8FL8CI<3>SCCXCAaB9\ <3>uA2zA0xA0<12>SA1QA1NA1<3>D92<6>UXAW`BYcC<3>hrI<3>UnX\ Rm_NlcJkgFfpAaz<3>PJoSFlWAi_5fc0ce7_<3>zb0<2>zz1zzC<2>z\ zz<3>jqdfo_blU<3>Mb8<3>LQ8KM8KJ8<2>I88H44G00<3>TA5WD6ZF\ 7aI8eLAhMBiODjQF<3>qeBriAtm9vq8xu7zz5zz4zz3<4>zj4zg4zc4\ <3>zS5zP5zL6zI6zE6wE6tD6<6>vAIv9Kv9M<3>x7Sy7Uy6Wz6Yz5_<\ 3>f5Ma5IW4E<2>_4H<3>P3D } frm:MandelbrotMix4 {; Jim Muth a=real(p1), b=imag(p1), d=real(p2), f=imag(p2), g=1/f, h=1/d, j=1/(f-b), z=(-a*b*g*h)^j, k=real(p3)+1, l=imag(p3)+100, c=fn1(pixel): z=k*((a*(z^b))+(d*(z^f)))+c, |z| < l } END PARAMETER FILE=======================================

FOTD -- December 23, 2006 (Rating 6) ................ Until then, take care, and is anyone else on the lists?
There are still several members of these discussion lists which directly receive your regular postings. I am unsure of the amount of individuals on the PhiloFractal list <philofractal-help@lists.fractalus.com>, but the last time I checked the FractInt list (and it's Digested version), there were close to 300 Members. And besides those receiving postings by email through the list, there always those that visit the web pages to see and read what is there, at least the FractInt list postings: http://mailman.xmission.com/lurker/list/fractint.en.html/ Too bad the PhiloFractal list was not better managed so that it too could have an archive available online. I think most people are very busy this time of the year tending to both job and home to have much time for the day to day email comments and replies.
