Re: [Fractint] Update to SDL version
David,
When I run DOS Fractint under DOSBox here, it can change resolutions but DOSBox doesn't allow resizing the window.
I have a 1920x1080 disk video mode set up for DOSFractint that works. Would be nice if DOSFractint allowed me to use a non-disk window that size. :)
You can put any window size you want into fractint.cfg. If it is too big, fractint 'should' send you back to the selection screen. Also, if you rename fractint.cfg to something else (say fractint_old.cfg), then the available window sizes will be auto detected and you can see them using the <DEL> key. It currently won't save a new fractint.cfg file. It is in the works. Write down the suitable window sized, change your fractint.cfg file back, and then edit the entries as needed. Full screen may not work very well because of differences between the actual physical screen size and the allowable area for writing to the screen without drawing on the task bar, etc. Jonathan

Hey, thanks, I added this line to fractint.cfg and XFractint SDL happily provided me with a 1920x1080x256 color window. SF10 ,1920x1080 256 color , 8, 1920, 1080,256, Selecting worked until I tried tweaking the aspect ratio. Then the selection box started appearing way offset from the mouse pointer. Trying to change video mode after that lead to a seg fault.

I tried that. It didn't find any new window modes or sizes.

Hmm, I think most Linux window managers have an option to display a window with no title bar. (At least XFCE does.) And my two task bars automatically hide. I have it running at the moment in a 1920x1080 window with no title bar. The only bit of window decoration appearing is a thin gray line at the top of the window, from my hidden task bar. Full screen or otherwise, selecting with the mouse for zooming in only appears to allow me to select by moving down and to the right. Moving up and right still draws a selection box below to the right that expands downward/right as I move the mouse. Despite that, XFractint SDL let me zoom around in it just fine On screens like fractal parameter screens, it wouldn't take numbers from my numeric keypad; only from the number row on the keyboard. Toggling NumLock made no difference to XFractint SDL. Regular XFractint accepts numbers from the keypad. And I was just reminded that XFractint is limited to 8.3 filenames. There goes my nice Swoosh-20171010.gif filename! ;) Thanks for XFractint SDL, I'm looking forward to using it! -- David W.
