FOTD -- February 14, 2012 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image shows an order-11 minibrot in the 'star' of a tiny period-26 radical on the northwest shore line of its parent Mandelbrot set. I rated the image at an 8 because it shows what can be done with the higher order minibrots when they are inserted into the 2-way symmetry patterns of the Mandelbrot set. By itself, the formula Z^11+C produces warped minibrots with surrounding patterns squeezed so close that they tend to all look the same. But when mixed with Z^2 stuff, as was done in today's image, the order-11 minibrots develop surrounding patterns that expand until they are almost as large and varied as the patterns surrounding the Z^2 minibrots. The name "Expansion" refers to this pattern xpansion. The calculation time of 2-3/4 minutes is a little slow, but the FOTD wb sites are always ready to come to the rescue.
