FOTD -- February 16, 2003 (Rating 5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The discussion will need to be short. We have a blizzard in progress here at Fractal Central, and I must frequently go out and work to keep things from getting hopelessly buried. Today's fractal is named "Stringing Along". I gave it this name when I noticed its resemblance to strings of something bright and shiny. The parent fractal resembles a vertically stacked pile of bays, with a stray Mandeloid bud in the lower left corner of the bottom bay. Today's scene is located in a spiral near the tip of the filament extending from this bud. The rating of an average five might have been a point or two higher if I had had the time to find the best color palette. But even as imperfect as it is, the image is worth the 7 minutes required to render it from the parameter file. Combined with a temperature of 27F -3C, the snow kept the fractal cats snug by the heat. This morning is starting with a temperature of 12F -11C and heavy snow accom- panied by lightning and thunder -- everything the duo dislike. The forecast is for up to 3-feet 90cm (that is no mistake) more snow by Monday, with high winds to blow it around. I fear the fractal cats will be unhappy to hear this, but for me it means a break in the design work, with lots of time between bouts of shoveling for sitting by my window, watching the snow and fractaling.
