FOTD -- January 21, 2008 (Rating 5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: I was kept so busy watching TV on Sunday that I had no time for a proper FOTD. But that old warhorse, the Mandelbrot set, bailed me out by producing an instant image of average quality. The image is a scene on the northeast shore line of the large period-2 bud of the M-set, lying at the border of Seahorse Valley. It's nothing we haven't seen before, so I rated it at an average 5. The name "Not too Deep" indicates that the image does indeed lie in the valley, but not very deep. The magnitude was great enough to require the mathtolerance entry. The calculation time of one minute is more an estimate than a true record. The fractal cats sampled the chilly draft by the window and retired to the radiator, while I finished some important work in front of the TV. The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours.
