FOTD -- August 19, 2012 (Rating 7.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's venture into the PI family of fractals takes us to the parent fractal that results when Z^(PI)+C is iterated PI levels up the hyperladder with the 'ceil' function applied. This parent resembles the familiar ground level PI fractal rotated about 30 degrees so that the north bud faces northeast. Today's image is located in the debris surrounding a small distorted bud on the fractured western shore line of the southern lobe of the main bay, just north of the negative X-axis. I usually avoid spirals in my fractals, since currently trendy fractals are over-populated with them, but today's fractal is so unusual that I just had to show it. Instead of consisting of continuous unbroken arms, the spiral surrounding the minibrot in today's image consists of isolated patches of debris spotted in a spiral pattern. This plus the coloring raises the rating to a respectable 7-1/2. The name "PI Celebration" needs no explanation. The calculation time of 1-1/4 minutes leaves only a tiny opening for impatience and boredom to creep in. And even this tiny possibility may be eliminated by visiting the web sites. The image is posted already calculated on the FOTD web site at: <http://www.crosscanpuzzles.com/Archives.html> A high-definition rendering is posted at: <http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/jim_muths_fotd.html> The back images are online at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> The day began with a bank of river fog obscuring the sky, but by mid-morning the fog cleared off, revealing a higher layer of clouds that prevailed for the rest of the day. The temperature of 73F 23C and lack of hot sun kept it quite comfortable for the middle of August. The house watch cats, Cassie and Nicholas, being indoor cats, had little to say about the outside conditions. The humans, being at least marginally human, had other things, such as discussing politics, to occupy their time. The next in the unending series of FOTD fractals will soon be posted. Until whenever, take care, and is the FOTD finally running out of steam after 15 years? Stay tuned for the next 15 years to find out.
