FOTD -- November 10, 2008 (No Rating) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image shows a minibrot on the eastern side of the north branch of Seahorse Valley of the Hyper-Mandelbrot set. So far, so good. We've seen many minibrots in Seahorse Valley. But today's minibrot is truly different. It is not empty on its inside. Instead of the expected blank interior, the minibrot is filled with a spidery network of very high iteration arms. The image was created by the HyperMandelbrot formula, which is a generalization of the type=hypercomplex formula. I am not sure if the arms inside the minibrot are real or if they are arti- facts, since it seems quite unlikely that a value as tiny as the 10^-150 of the real(p3) parameter could make such a difference in the appearance of a minibrot. But there it is in the image, and it behaves as though it is real. I named the image "Mandel What is It" but gave it no rating. It's kind of hard to give a name to something I know nothing about. The calculation time of 4-1/4 minutes will cause no pain.
