FOTD -- March 19, 2012 (Rating 8.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: I named today's image "The Spirits Murmur", which refers to the rather delicate pastel coloring. But do spirits actually murmur? Probably not. Most likely they have no need to communicate across distances, since they appear to be entangled in much the same manner as a pair of quantum particles, and therefore exist at every point in the universe at all moments of time, which makes them eternal. Fractals are also eternal. The Mandelbrot set always has existed as a potential image, and long after mankind is gone, it will continue to potentially exist. Any species intelligent enough to invent complex numbers will invent computers and soon thereafter discover the Mandelbrot set. If that species exists in a space of more than 3 dimensions, it will also discover the Julibrot, which to 4-D challenged beings such as ourselves, must always remain a potential but unseen thing. Today's image is far more real. It exists in the debris of the north bud of a tiny minibrot far out on the main spike of its parent Mandelbrot set, which is infected by Z^9 energies in its depths. The minibrot is about halfway morphed from a Z^2 shape into a Z^9 shape. The rating of an 8-1/2 includes 1/2 point for the coloring, which is 1/3 of my own creation and 2/3 the work of the Fractint program. The calculation time of 50 seconds is quite fast, but viewing the finished image on one of the web sites is far more convenient.
