Marcus,
I have the old Winfract that takes lesser time to draw the fractals as compared with the new Fractint in my XP, but IT IS an obsolete software.
1. I was amazed of Paul´s http://www.deleeuw.com.au/download/SetupManpWIN.exe that is very, very rapid, but was disappointed by the small number of types of fractals available and color changes dificulties. (He says he used the old Winfract routines). 2. I was decived by the speed in Jonathan´s the new Winfract although it has all the Fractint´s types of fractals.
What do you mean by item 2? If you turn off the pixel-by-pixel update, it is fairly quick.
I know that I will laways be a fervorous fan of Fractint, an almost 20 years of fidelity, but newer and newer Windows are making it slower.
I've found that my laptop computers work better with Fractint. Probably because the manufacturer has tweaked Windows to work better with the hardware.
As I cannot even think in contributing in any programing, I humbly subject the proposition of "linking" the speed achieved by Paul´s with the Winfract friendly status bar of Jonathan´s, including his complete fractal types, as much as Fractint´s.
Paul and I have discussed a merge. I need to be more familiar with Windows programming before it will happen, however. And, as it stands, there are far too many features broken in the updated Winfract code to make a merge practical at this time. Jonathan
