FOTD -- May 07, 2014 (Rating A-6,M-8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image shows a minibrot being devoured by a dark shadow encroaching from the right. Shocked by this scene, I named the image "The Shadow of Doom". Actually, the shadow is the advancing edge of a kind of cutoff point set by the ridiculously large value of the imag(p3) parameter, which determines the escape radius. The parent fractal combines 10 negative parts of Z^(-1.1) with one part of Z^(-11) before adding (1/C) on each iteration. This combination produces a very common type of parent fractal, consisting of a north-south string of large bays with a prominent 'fan' extending east from the origin. Today's scene lies well east of this fan, in an area that has been opened up by the immense escape radius. The art rating of a 6 implies that the image is less than totally awesome. The math rating of an 8 shows that encroaching escape radii are rather unusual. The calculation time of 2-1/3 minutes will pass, take my word for it. It will pass even faster when the finished image is viewed on the web sites.
