FOTD -- October 30, 2004 (Rating 6.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: After yesterday's stupendous (IMO) fractal, today's image can hardly avoid being a come-down. But a rating of 6.5 is not to be sneezed at, (unless one is allergic to fractals, that is). The formula behind the image is the julzzpwr, which raises Z to the power of the previous Z then mixes it with another arbitrary power of Z before adding C. The fractals it produces are not the best of all time, but as today's image shows, they can be quite interesting. I have named the image "Multiplication" for short. The full name is "Multiplication of the Fractals", but this is too long to fit in the name box, which has a limit of 18-characters, so a simple "Multiplication" will have to do. The frame is filled with a multitude of similar but not identical fractal objects spread evenly across the scene, the background of which blends from a purplish tone at the bottom to a deep sky-blue at the top. It could be considered a fractal snow shower or perhaps a flight of fractal birds taking off into space. The image immediately reminded me of a painting named "Golconde" by the surrealist artist René Magritte, in which a shower of men standing at attention in overcoats and bowler hats is descending over the roof of a city building. The image also reminds me of many pictures by Escher, but the Magritte picture is the first one that came to mind. As the rating of 6.5 indicates, I consider the image better than a 6 but not good enough for a 7. The render time is short how- ever, and this raises the overall worth to a 246. The wallpaper-like image may be seen by running the included par- ameter file or by downloading the completed GIF image from the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> Either choice will take about the same time. The Friday weather was foggy and misty here at Fractal Central -- not really wet, but not dry either. And the temperature never made it above 59F 15C. The fractal cats accepted the conditions as they saw them, spending just over an hour on the porch and venturing down into the yard only briefly. Their moods were acceptable also. Maybe the dynamic duo is mellowing in its old age. Today is starting foggy and misty -- almost a repeat of yesterday. I have faith that the aging fractal cats will again be satisfied. I myself will remain satisfied as long as I keep the other work up to date, which I have been doing rather well for almost two months now. The next FOTD fractal is already finished, and waiting to make its appearance in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and iterate in peace.
