Hi Jim et al. I'm still out here, but very busy with work and personal biz. I haven't browsed a fractal site or generated a new finished piece myself in over a year, and haven't updated my web site in over three years. I've had about three bad years in the immediate family and am now dealing with my home, my parents' home, and two estates. And I really should be looking for a better job (hours, pay, and boss all reek). But rest assured, once I dig out I will be back to my old fractal ways. Carry on and happy holidays, Bud Bud's Fractal Pages (or stub of) http://veenet.value.net/~mchris/. Until then, take care, and is anyone else on the lists?
Jim, I use Fractint to calculate every FotD fractal you post at 1024 x 768, or larger if warranted, on my P400 Win98 machine.
I often try out different color maps on the resulting images and occasionally zoom into you images. I don't post the results of my experiments too often because it feels like I'm posting into a black hole.
I suspect that there are a lot of members of [Fractint] and [Philofract] who go and view your FotD images that are posted on the web. I think that many people either don't know how to use a parameter file to calculate a fractal in Fractint, or don't have the time or inclination to do so and just go and look at your completed fractals at: http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
I occasionally post a description of how to go about calculating a fractal using Fractint and a parameter file (like the ones you post) to encourage those who have not done this, or forgotten how, to give it a try.
Note, however, that whenever there is a controversy or an interesting question is posted, people seem to come out of the woodwork to respond, so I think there actually are quite a few people out there reading many of your posts -- just not so many people who feel inclined to post.
I also follow the posts on FractDev, the Fractint development team's email list serve, in hopes that someday I might find a Fractint enhancement task that I can successfully accomplish.
