FOTD -- December 01, 2006 (Not Rated) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's very fast image reminds me of the craters of the moon. And this is what I named it. I guess lunar craters are not worth much because after careful consideration I decided not to give it a rating. The parent fractal came about when I combined 10 parts of Z^(-0.3) with Z^3.4 and added (1/C). This parent fractal appears as a small Mandelbrot set surrounded by a field of disconnected satellite areas of chaos. Today's image is located in a remote satellite far to the northeast of the central M-set. The ring-like effect that reminds me of craters was created by calculating the image with the outside set to 'tdis'. I believe this option measures the total distance the points travel before they escape. The other outside options give images that are too chaotic. The image is a very fast one, taking only 1 minute on my tired old machine. It will go even faster on the SOTA units that are able to run Fractint and also display the DOS VESA video modes. Those who do not render may see the image by going to the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> and viewing it there. Thick clouds and a mild temperature of 61F 16C prevailed here at Fractal Central on Thursday. The fractal cats made the most of the situation by trashing another newspaper. They were quite hungry when the time for a treat arrived. My day was a little busier than yesterday, but still on the slow side. The idle times verged on boredom. I am getting impatient with the slowness of the recovery from the injury of 7 weeks ago. But luckily, it is not possible to get excessively bored in a world filled with fractals. The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and look up.
