I suppose there's no chance fractint could be made to run on XP
I have tried to get Fractint to run on several different NT and XP systems with various video cards; all with no luck. I would suggest trying Virtual PC 5.0 (http://www.connectix.com/products/vpc5w.html). This program allows you to run different operating systems (DOS, OS/2, etc.) on top of Windows. It works by virtualizing all the hardware (e.g., it emulates an S3 video card). This product gets good reviews. Some people successfully use it to run DOS games on NT/XP, so it should work with Fractint. Although it is $200, you can download a fully functional free trial. I am going to upgrade from NT to XP in a month or two (I'm waiting on a new slide scanner). After I upgrade, I'm going to try Virtual PC. It would be worth $200 to me to be able to run Fractint, my old DOS programs, and my old OS/2 programs. Of course, I'll report my experience here. Nick
