Albrecht, Nice to have you back! Thanks for the careful description of the algorithms used to create your music! Sorry you are having trouble posting again... The thing that immediately struck me when starting to listen to your new music -- for the first time -- was the "human" articulation or "style" it has. By this I mean, the apparent emphasizing of some notes/chords, and the silences/pauses within the "melodies." The music's syncopation strongly adds to this feeling. This gives me the impression that there is someone "interpreting" a musical score, and adding their personal input to the intent of the music. It feels very strange to have to acknowledge that this "interpretation" is purely algorithmic. I can almost picture 3 or 4 relaxed musicians in a small, smoky bar playing their music -- passing the "lead" melody back and forth between them. After three minutes I suddenly felt I had to start it playing at the beginning again -- to try to understand exactly how this musical journey had started. I did this two more times and then let it play through to the end. This is so relaxing and pleasant I could listen to it all day long. ================================================= Does this music have the phasing/timing between the voices "slide" in time? <== <== ================================================= And many thanks for your efforts to revive the moribund forum! - Hal Lane ######################## # hallane@earthlink.net ######################## -----Original Message----- From: Fractint [mailto:fractint-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Timothy Wegner Sent: Thursday, May 28, 2015 1:46 PM To: Fractint and General Fractals Discussion Subject: [Fractint] Fwd: Natural Music Hal, as you see I´m back frim my trip and this is a try to wake up the dead forum, once again. As before you are the first one to recdeive my new creations. Pleae study and let me have your comments - also in the forum if you want - and dont hold back any critical comments. Thank you! Albrecht ======================== Having returned from my 2 months trip I have to face the fact that in the meantime not a single new fractal has been presented, so the forum has to be considered finalized. but on the other hand I managed on earlier occasions to reanimate the dead man. : So let´s give it one more try, I have something to contribute to lighten the task. The multifractal project is about finished successfully and the question is what to do next - : It is generally accepted that fractals play an important part in our universe and the idea that something as complex as the mandelbrot has not a certain task is out of the question. If you look around yourself in a natural surrounding not killed by human dirt you detect that the components to a high degree are fractal, the biology and even more the inanimate parts of nature - water, air, earth, fire and the like. : Of course these components produce sounds - maybe inspiring or exciting. Listen to wind, raindrops or sounds of the sea which quite often are used to enhance or play a part in music. They may contain melodical or rhythmical elements which change if you´re listening for some time. : I´m trying to produce music consisting of similar elemnts with no predefined melody or rhythm which nevertheless urges you to listen, detect them and dive into the acoustical experience. Listening again and again you may detect different components so you have the feeling that it is not the same music anymore and want to listen again. : Especially produced multifractal images with numerous different shapes and colors are converted into sound using the RGB values of single pixels as source. A square IFS is used for scanning. An enhanced version of my fractal rhythm supplies the musical progress. It is a shifting rhythm that NEVER repeats, so the "melodical" elements also change. A sophisticated formation makes it possible that every voice can have any pitch or length. : The music is generated by an automatic algorithm which does not reqire any manual input. The final result definetely is fractal music: NATURAL MUSIC not to be confounded with nature music. The scale is "E"- Minor Pentatonic, measures 1/1 16 triplets. The Image is a manowar image produced with the latest MFR14 patch, both included in the link. ; https://www.dropbox.com/sh/f8dfjd11uqs7o1a/AAC2t9_rUYrTPSTEC3oG6XZ5a?dl=0 ; The music is an unedited first version, more advanced music will follow if there is some feedback ; Albrecht Niekamp _______________________________________________ Fractint mailing list Fractint@mailman.xmission.com https://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/fractint --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. http://www.avast.com
