We are making running Fractint on WIndows 7 too hard. In about 10 minutes I installed dosbox on Windows 7 64 bit (see:http://www.dosbox.com).
I put fractint in c:\fractint. I fired up dosbox and tried:
mount c c:\fractint
but for some reason I couldn't type "\ -- it came out "]" instead. In desperation I tried:
mount c c:/fractint
and it worked!
Inside DOSBOX I changed to drive c: and ran fractint. Interface came up. Mouse works. Even the tweaked modes worked.
Looks like dosbox runs on all kinds of platforms too.
Could some other folks try this and report results?
When I ran OS/2, I didn't need anything like DOSBox to run Fractint. It ran just fine under OS/2's built-in DOS support. In fact - it ran better under OS/2 than it did under Windows! -- David gnome@hawaii.rr.com authenticity, honesty, community
