David,

0.56 is off. When I calculate ratios I either get 1.77 or 0.56. Or maybe it's just ignoring my view window setting entirely? I just tried some really different ones (like 0.33) and it seems to make no difference.
I see that the <DEL> screen isn't finding the current video mode like it should. I'll have to back out changes to see what happened. Well, I just tried it from my new-default 1920x1080 screen. Del found the list of video modes. I picked SF6 (800x600) and got an 800x600 fractal in the lower left corner of my 1920x1080 window. It seemed to find all the modes.
I would assume that your 1920x1080 is actually full screen.
Well, it only goes full screen if I select that from the XFCE window decoration widget (upper left corner dropdown, "Fullscreen"). Otherwise it's inside an ordinary looking (but large) window on my desktop. There is one interesting thing. The usual way to get out of fullscreen is to either press Escape (already used by Fracint) or press alt-space to get the pulldown window menu. Well, I was going to report that alt-space brought up some text option window XFractint ... then tried it again and it had no problems. Even in fullscreen. One difference that time: I selected my 1920x1080 video mode but didn't move the window from where it had opened up (upper left corner of window in the horizontal/vertical middle of the screen). Don't know!
A full screen video mode will not behave as expected (like DOS Fractint) when a new video size is selected using <DEL>. I had tried to implement it, but was having trouble determining the causes of the problems we were (and still are) having with the different video modes, so I took it out. Once switching normal window sizes works, I will work on getting <DEL> to work when the image is full screen. OTOH, we could have the <DEL> selection reduce the window size to be not full screen. Any preferences?
I think my preference would be to have it keep the window full screen, but maybe not viable? I just checked it now; from fullscreen 1920x1080 I switched to 640x480. I couldn't mouse select in the smaller version of the image. So probably best to have it take the window out of fullscreen and render it in the requested size. -- David W.
