Thanks Jonathan. I think I asked my questions wrong. I guess my question was really about "reset=", which I can't find in the docs. From what I can tell from looking back on some par files going back to 1992 I don't see reset=xxxx in them until I see reset=1960 (around year 2000). Until then, there were just "reset" without the "=" - which is documented. The reason it matters to me is that right around that time, a whole lot of the sound feature was being done. It was only in the very latest patches of ver1961 that the <ctrl+f> menu came into existence. Am I correct that if I run a par with reset=1960, that ver2004.14 will load the sound related info and if I immediately save a new par that the sound related info will be reconfigured into the present par format? Heck, I'll just try it and see. On Thu, Jan 18, 2018 at 5:44 PM, Jonathan Osuch <osuchj@mediacombb.net> wrote:
Bill,
1) can someone explain the reset=xxxx entry? I can find no mention other than a specific reference to "reset=1920" in the docs. I am in the process of reevaluating many par files from the past audio fractal work I have done over the years, and am trying to determine the effect of various reset= entries in my pars.
From the Docs: RESET Causes Fractint to reset all calculation related parameters to their default values. Non-calculation parameters such as "printer=", "sound=", and "savename=" are not affected. RESET should be specified at the start of each parameter file entry (used with the <@> command) which defines an image, so that the entry need not describe every possible parameter - when invoked, all parameters not specifically set by the entry will have predictable values (the defaults).
When you create a PAR, the reset= should have a value corresponding to the version of Fractint you are using. This is used for backwards compatibility and should be left alone unless you are trying to reproduce an effect from a specific revision of Fractint. If you load an old PAR, then create a new one from the resulting image, the reset= value will be for the current Fractint version unless there was some specific feature used that needs backwards compatibility.
2) Has it always been the case that the view window parameter is only recorded if it is other than the default "no"?
Yes. We only record parameters that are not at their default setting.
