You might try making sure you have the most recent video driver for your video card. I have a similar problem here on my W95 box - Fractint and Windows fight over the display adaptor. OS/2 on the same hardware has no problems, so it's the W9x video driver. Your solution is the only one I came up with before giving up on Windows and Fractint. I run Windows 98 SE and after running Fractint, particularly in SF7 display mode, I find that the Windows video display is so corrupt as to be useless. Typically just black and white, no detail, no text, no cursor. The only cure is to re-boot.
