The DOS Fractint runs beautifully under DOSBox on ANY platform. I have even run it on my Android phone. So if your platform runs DOSBox you are good to go. I have tried various other virtual platforms, and it runs on most of them that support DOS, Xp, or maybe even Windows up to Win 98, but the DOSBox setup works so well I'm not sure why run VM's unless one is curious or expert.
Confirmed! After a day of testing this is the easiest way to start: In the Dosbox config file add the following line under autoexecute: mount c c:\dosfiles\FRACTI~1\ this means the fractint directrory is now c:\ and you have to type only FRACTI~1.exe to start. ; The sstools is placed inside the fractint folder, so the path settings look like this: workdir=c:\work cycles=max to get the highest possible speed ; If you have a wireless keyboard without numpad all zoombox commands are available with the built in trackball, but only if fullscreen=false. ; If you set fullscreen=true you have the look and feel of the original dos or XP dos window. The speed is slower compared to my XP computer. Use one of my pars to compare. ; The fractint.cfg file is now accepted and the vesa modes up to 1280/1024 are available. ; Petta
