Caren, Hi, it's been a while.
oh, and if there's a program useable today (preferably free) that will read the old PAR files and generate images in larger resolutions than 1024x768, i'd love to hear about it. system is win10 if that helps, but i might be able to scrounge up some linux hardware if i had to...
There are several options. Not in any particular order. 1. Run Fractint inside DOSBox or in a virtual machine. I find using DOSBox a bit slow and getting files into and out of a virtual machine has always been problematic for me. For DOSBox see https://www.fractint.net/ftp/current/DOSBox The current patch of Fractint (20.04p17) is here: https://www.fractint.net/ftp/current/dos 2. Run Xfractint on a Linux system. This works fairly well and is fast. Down sides are you need to compile it, the interface is slightly different, and there is no sound. The current source for Xfractint (20.04p16) is here: https://www.fractint.net/ftp/current/linux 3. Run the windows SDL port. This is fast. Sound is not implemented beyond the PC speaker buzz. The fast formula parser optimization doesn't always create the correct image (disable with debug=322 on the <g> screen). Other problems are listed in the New Features section of the Help docs. The current windows SDL port is here: https://www.fractint.net/ftp/experimental/SDL2-fractint-20.05alpha-2022-05-0... It's good to hear from you. Jonathan
