FOTD -- April 01, 2010 (Rating 7.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: With a rush in progress here at FC on Wednesday, I turned to the good old Mandelbrot set to produce a fractal. The fractal I quickly found lies deep in the eastern side of the northern branch of Seahorse Valley. The image is unusual in that its maxiter is an even 1,000,000, its logmap is 91500 and its magnitude is over 3*(10^13). But despite these extreme values, the scene calculates in a reason- able 6-2/3 minutes, at least on my 2000mhz machine. A slightly better resolution may be achieved by calculating the image with arbitrary precision math in effect, but this will exact a huge penalty in calculation time. (The arbitrary precision calcula- tion will take about 24 hours.) As for the appearance of the image itself, it holds nothing exceptional and rates a 7-1/2, which is above FOTD average. The name "Deep Deeper Deepest" is not an english lesson, it refers to the extreme values of the scene. The outside conditions improved greatly here at Fractal Central on Wednesday as the sun broke through the clouds and the temperature soared to 70F 21C. The inside conditions also improved as the fractal cats put on their best moods. My day was acceptable, though busier than I would have preferred. The next FOTD will be posted in 24 or so hours.
