############################################################ Jim Muth's October 10, 2004 FOTD, 'Twinship' "...splits along [the Mandelbrot set's] negative real axis." "How does the set behave where the split 'begins'?" was the question that immediately came to mind. So I did some zooms into his FOTD where that seemed to occur. Here is the result of that exploration. The color map has been rotated to bring out both the linear and the curved tendril shapes in the image. Where the split in the the Mandelbrot set's negative real axis happens is shown pretty clearly. There happen to be no substantial miniature Mandelbrot sets at this particular magnification, but that allows the other elements of the fractal to be the central features of the image. In an effort to entice you into creating this quickly- drawn fractal I will give a rough description. The overall figure is somewhat dark and bloody, with malevolent medusa-like tendrils dominating the image.
