Natalie, I use a sub-directory named xfractint under my home directory. This is where all my user-generated files (such as par files and gif files) go. Before starting xfractint, I always `cd' to that direcory. Put your sstools.ini file in this xfractint directory. Xfractint looks for [fractint] (the DOS name) in sstools.ini. Put map=default.map in an sstools.ini file. Now, where to put the sstools.ini file, I don't have a clue.

I'll try to figure out where to put it.
I still don't know where to put the sstools.ini file but I found a solution.
I tried with sstools.ini in the xfractint dir, no good. Then with SSTOOLS.INI, no. Both versions in my homedir, didn't work. Changed them to hidden files ( .SSTOOLS.INI & .sstools.ini), no effect.
Looked through the code, didn't get any wiser.
Renamed sstools.ini (the one in the xfractint dir) to xftest, typed xfractint @xftest an error message flashed past, I spotted the words couldn't understand ...
I edited xftest, removed the first line, the one that says: [xfractint]
And it WORKS!
