FOTD -- December 17, 2008 (No Rating) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The rush continued here at FC on Tuesday, though things were not as hectic as on Monday, when we had two customers crying for their jobs immediately. This allowed me a bit more time to find a fractal, but the result still falls short of FOTD standards. Today's image is absolutely saturated with fractal detail, so much in fact that it suffers from the excess. With so much detail, I'm not even sure the image can be called good. I gave the image no rating. The name "Going Too Far" refers to the detail in the image, which is so excessive that it spoils the fractal effect. The scene lies in the East Valley area of a Mandelbrot set just starting to morph into a Z^(-12) Mandeloid. The tiny real(p2) parameter of 0.0000001 is what makes the M-set go crazy. The moderate calculation time of 4 minutes is still a bit too slow for such a mediocre image, but fractal salvation is to be found on the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> where the finished image is or soon will be posted for instant gratification. Heavy clouds prevailed here at Fractal central on Tuesday, while the temperature hung around 34F +1C. The few light flurries of snow melted as fast as they fell. The fractal cats checked the weather, then decided to spend the day exploring the bookshelves in the long hallway. My day was very busy, but nothing like Monday. The next FOTD will probably but not certainly appear in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and hope for the best.
