FOTD -- April 18, 2010 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Due to an unsurprising antiquing expedition, today's image is a little late, but it rates another eight, and as long as I can keep these eights coming, the results will be worth the effort. The parent fractal of today's image begins in its East Valley area as a Mandelbrot set. But as we advance westward, things start getting progressively more wrong. To begin, the main bud is far too large. In fact, it's larger than the main bay itself. And the second bud is no longer a single bud. It has split into two parts. Finally, to make things even worse, instead of a single straight negative spike, we have two curved filaments, one shooting out, curving toward the north-northwest, the other toward the south-southwest. Today's image lies on the west side of the northern branch of the valley separating the oversized main bud from the split second bud. The overall pattern resembles the stuff found in Scepter Valley, but nothing like those open, chaos-filled holes can be found in the true Scepter Valley. The rating of an 8 reflects my opinion of the image. The name "Green Conflagration" refers to the strong emerald green areas surrounding the beige central pattern. The calculation time of under 7 minutes might be considered slow by the more impatient fractalists. The way to avoid this minor delay is to surf out to the FOTD web site at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> and view the finished image there. Saturday turned most un-springlike here at Fractal Central, with heavy clouds hanging overhead all day, occasional sprinkles of rain, a biting northwest wind and a temperature of 48F +9C. The fractal cats slept through it. My day was busy but otherwise not too bad. The next FOTD will be posted in 12 hours. That's not a promise, but far more likely than not. Until next FOTD, take care, and would the real truth please stand up.
