I am just guessing that this might be a math precision issue. Fracton uses 64 bit double precision floating point calculations for all arithmetic. I think the DOS version of FractInt uses the slightly higher precision 80 bit floating point for some intermediate calculations before it gets rounded back to 64 bit floating point. Fracton seems to draw a slightly different image in fractals with numbers raised to large powers, near the maximum resolution, and whenever Jim says that a very slight change in parameters causes the image to evaporate.
