Hello David, Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I tried a few of the things suggested on the link you gave me, but, similar to the results found by the person who had a similar issue (with Windows XP), they did not fix the problem. It looks like the Win NT based operating systems (Windows 2000 and XP) are not really compatible with DOS.
I've never used Fractint with W2K. I understand that W2K doesn't have as much compatibility with DOS apps as XP does. Of course, on hardware I used to have, Fractint and Windows9x didn't get along - the combo would happily freeze the computer completely - while Fractint and IBM's OS/2 operating system got along just fine ... The link about Fractint bugs refers to Fractint 20.0, but perhaps the problem has been fixed in one of the point releases? I think DOS Fractint is up to 20.0.4 or something like that. Another possibility would be to run DOS Fractint under Windows XP using VMWare or some other virtual machine software. You've certainly got the hardware muscle needed to run it that way. I don't know what display resolutions might be available to Fractint when running that way.
Anyhow, thanks for helping me out and good luck.
You're welcome! I've been running XFractint, the Linux version, on my Linux systems. The only piece of DOS Fractint I miss with it is color cycling. -- David gnome@hawaii.rr.com authenticity, honesty, community
