FOTD -- June 17, 2013 (Rating A-9,M-6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image has an art rating of a 9. This is because I went out of my way to find a coloring that would make the image resemble a real 3-D monolith. The rating shows that I consider my efforts pretty successful. The math rating is a humdrum 6. After all, how interesting can the expression Z^(1.009)+C be regardless of how far up the hyperladder it is calculated. As a matter of interest, today's image was calculated 120 levels up the ladder. The parent fractal is a grossly oversized thing resembling a primitive stone arrowhead plunging back to earth. Today's scene lies in the chaos on the eastern edge of the arrowhead. The name "The Lost Monument" implies that regardless of how far one might search, he would never find the scene depicted in the image, since it exists only in the world of fractals as well as in the mind. I leave it to the individual fractalist to decide if mathematical fractals and human thoughts are to be considered in any way real. The calculation time of 6-1/2 minutes is slow enough to bring impatience to the more restless fractalists, so hooray for the web sites, which can bring relief. Find relief from mathematical anxiety by viewing the finished image on the official FOTD web site at: <http://www.crosscanpuzzles.com/Archives.html> Extra happiness may be found by viewing the hi-def rendering at: <http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/jim_muths_fotd.html> Total bliss lies on the web site at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> where the FOTD back images are posted. Rather sultry conditions prevailed here at Fractal Central today, with partly cloudy skies, some humidity and a temperature of 86F 30C. The fractal cat felt playful in the morning, but calmed just after noon to enjoy a quiet afternoon sleeping. The humans had a busy day, with FL working in her garden while I supervised. The next FOTD will be posted in a period of time that will seem to pass in a flash. Until then, take care, and before a problem can be solved, the nature of the problem must first be recognized.
