I finally got Oracle's VirtualBox running; also got FreeDOS 1.1 installed in VirtualBox; also installed the "per-configured virtual machine on the www.fractint.org site. (FreeDOS with Fractint pre built)" into the VirtualBox. Still can't find Fractint anywhere in the VirtualBox; the FreeDOS 1.1 Guest just comes up with a plain DOS window that I can't get to do anything. The FreeDOS-with-Fractint Guest is exactly the same. So I created a Folder with Fractint in it: "C:\DOS\fractint" (with fractint.exe in \fractint). I then configured both Guests to have C:\DOS\fractint as "Shared Folders". Result: no Fractint, no nothin'. The DOS window ends with C:\>_ awaiting my command I guess, but whatever I type in results in "Bad command or filename -". I've typed in "DOS\fractint"; "C:\DOS\fractint" and "C:\DOS\fractint\fractint.exe" (all followed with "Enter")... all "Bad commands". I've tried to learn how to install Fractint into FreeDOS in Virtualbox but see no way of doing it. So I simply double clicked fractint.exe in its Shared Folder and it wouldn't open, as usual. So, now that I have DOS how do I run Fractint??? &/or What is the Command I enter into DOS??? To Paul N. Lee RE your letter of 1/30: Thx very much for your overview & suggestions! I'll follow thru with them when I get my old PC. To Nick Grasso RE your letter of 2/1: Thx much for your input. I may eventually bite the bullet and download MS-DOS or try DOSBox in order to finally run Fractint. Your question "If you are just running Fractint, why do you need a GUI?" is reasonable:) Altho' I used Fractint in the 90s I never really learned DOS & I don't want to have to learn it now; I just thought it'd be easier for me with a GUI. & more, but must end for now. ~Knute --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. http://www.avast.com
