Hal, I am not sure if the setup really requires separate fractint directories as you suggest (and I guess I suggested), but it might. Running multiple DOSBox instances with fractint will take a little experimentation. Might also need separate DOSBox configuration files, I'm not sure. I think just an hour or two of experimentation could resolve this. And by the way, the main reason I recommend the svn version of DOSBox is that it has better VESA video support. Otherwise the regular DOSBox is fine. I have both on my system, and yesterday just quickly ran fractint in both (from one fractint directory). The main problem I had was the various DOSBoxs grabbing control of the mouse and keyboard. ctrl-alt-delete and then cancel restores control of keyboard and mouse to the main windows. So, perhaps multiple installs of Fractint in side-by-side directories. E.g.: /FrctintA/, /FrctintB/, /FrctintC/, /FrctintD/ , ... Then all of Fractint's file allocations and configuration files would be completely separate. I plan/hope to use modified versions of the Fractint-created batch file to feed the Fractint-generated parameter files to the separate instances of Fractint and assemble the calculated pieces of the image.
I'll keep my original Fractint directory to calculate the faster images, and to create the multiple parameter and batch files for the simultaneously-running Fractints.
If I can get it all working, it's not likely to be an especially clean or elegant solution -- but I've always been irritated at having all those idle CPU cores -- and idle RAM -- while running Fractint... But, I'm encouraged to experiment with this a bit.
