Jim has both May 30 and May 31 dates in his post. I had to pick one for my file names. I picked May 31st. All my investigations of Jim's FOTX -- May 31, 2016 are (unless otherwise noted): - 5X oversampled (to 27 mega-pixel images) - anti-aliased and slightly sharpened - have Jim's LogMap changed from 248 to 0 Images viewed full size have their quality preserved. Jim's FOTX -- May 31, 2016: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160531.jpg The FOTX's "parent" fractal: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160531Z.jpg Zoomed a bit to show the main period-2 bud: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160531Y.jpg Out the negative X-axis: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160531X.jpg The upper left arm in "X" contains this somewhat paisley-like feature: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160531W.jpg Three fat paisleys and friend: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160531V.jpg Zooming into "W" gives "U": http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160531U.jpg Here's a demo of the importance of color maps -- "T" is the same image as "U" above -- but with its color map shifted up 32 locations. The character of the two images is vastly different: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160531T.jpg In "S" the three black "paisley" features are large enough to dominate the central Mandeloid figure: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160531S.jpg Elephant Valley has some extra features: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160531R.jpg Zooming into the right sloping side of "R" above shows feathery tendrils in bays: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160531Q.jpg These spiraling tendrils make me feel like they're diving down a black hole "to infinity -- and beyond": http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160531P.jpg There's one more image being calculated -- a zoom into some tendrils in "P" above -- so this link won't work until it gets finished: Its MaxIter is raised from Jim's 2000 to 4000. http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160531N.jpg - Hal Lane ######################## # hallane@earthlink.net ######################## -----Original Message----- From: Fractint [mailto:fractint-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Jim Muth Sent: Tuesday, May 31, 2016 2:20 PM To: fractint@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [Fractint] FOTX -- May 31, 2016 FOTD -- May 30, 2016 (Rating A-8,M-8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: After an adequate 'holiday' week-end here at FC, the fractals are once again coming to life. Today's emerald gem lies on the negative X-axis of its parent fractal, which resembles an M-set with a severe infection of a cubic virus. The parent's main bay is relatively intact, but the larger buds, especially the main period-2 bud, are becoming distorted. In fact, this bud already has a kind of island appearing inside it. Today's scene is located at the east end of an almost totally cubic minibrot lying on the main stem just beyond the large minibrot. The minibrot at the center of today's image is perfectly cubic, but the number sequence of elements surrounding it is messed up, with alternating doubling and tripling rather than all tripling. This irregularly increasing number of elements inspired the name "Cubic Conundrum". I rated the art and math both at an 8, which makes the image well worth the couple minutes required to run the parameter file. As for the art aspect, the pattern around the cubic minibrot is one of the most striking I have yet seen. The math is nothing really new, though even after working with today's formula for several years, I am still not sure why the iterated expression, (sqr(z)*recip(z^(a)+b)), does exactly what it does. But regardless, along with the MandAutoCritInZ formula, it supplies about half my fractal surprises. The 'holiday' weekend went well enough here at Fractal Central. Memorial Day itself turned out partly cloudy with a temperature of 86F 30C and a passing, garden watering type thunder shower in the afternoon. I passed a good part of the day reading and pondering, though I found nothing new to ponder too deeply. The next FOTX will be posted possibly as soon as tomorrow, the first day of June. Until whenever, take care, and prepare for better fractal things to come.
